Senate speech regarding HB 444 Civil Unions, May 25, 2009
This video includes the floor remarks given by Senator Hooser on March 25, 2009. The attempt to pull HB444 to the floor of the Senate for a full vote on this date was unsuccessful after receiving only 6 of the 9 votes required for passage. Subsequently on May 7, a second attempt initiated by Senator Les Ihara and supported by Senator Hooser was successful. At the conclusion of the day HB444 was passed in an amended version which Senator Hooser did not support as it was perceived as an attempt to kill or at the minimum delay the measures passage. The matter will be taken up again for final votes (or not) in the Senate and the House during the 2010 legislative session.
